Mrs Pooran – Inchanga Primary School

  1. What is your current role within the education space?
I am a mathematics educator at Inchanga Primary school. I teach Grade 6 and Grade 7 mathematics.

  1. What inspired you to follow this career path?
I haven’t always been an educator; I worked in the corporate sector for almost 15 years. My love for children and passion for education drove me to become an educator.

  1. What do you love most about what you do?

I absolutely love my children. Every day is a new day! Seeing their happy, enthusiastic faces every morning makes the austere environment worth it.

  1. What attributes, do you feel, are important for success in your role?

My passion for education is what drives me. I’m a determined person who will ensure that education is always the order of the day along with making sure that our children are safe and taken care of.

  1. What obstacles in life have you had to overcome, and what did you learn?

Life has not always been kind to me. I lost my dad at a very young age, so my mom became our sole provider. Life was very difficult financially, but we coped. My mom always taught us that no matter how difficult times were, there was always light at the end of the tunnel. Once I was finished with school, I had to work for pittance to put myself through university but that never made me quit. I persevered because I knew the importance of education.

  1. What advice do you have for young girls?

To all the beautiful young girls out there, never give up on your dreams of becoming someone great one day…. persevere through the struggles and always find the light at the end of the tunnel! Never let anyone undermine you, you are beautiful inside and out and you can achieve anything once you set your mind to it. Positive thinking.
