I am Miss K Govender, I’m an educator at Mahathma Primary School and a student at UKZN. I teach grade 3 English and Life Skills and grade 5 Afrikaans.
- What’s the most inspiring experience that you had as a teacher?
There’s too many to choose from! I am inspired by my learners every day. Despite all the challenges they face, they still show up each morning and smile through it all.
- What is your secret superpower?
Keeping my class quiet.
- What’s the funniest thing that is ever happened to you in a classroom?
There’s too many moments to choose from. Every day is an adventure in the classroom.
- What do you love the most about being a teacher?
The morning smiles and hugs from my learners, you can never be in a bad mood when you receive so much love!
- What did you want to be when you were little?
A teacher just like my parents! (Real answer: A zookeeper).
- Who is was your favourite female teacher when you were at school and why?
My high school English teacher, Mrs K Koobal. I gained my passion for the English language through her teachings.
- During this pandemic, what advice would you give to your learners and other educators?
Take each day as it comes, we will get through this eventually. It can’t rain forever!
