Let’s make a broom!
Mrs Jhagroo from Wembley Primary School together with learners (from left to right) Owais Hassen, Jermaine Kisten and Nandeni Govender made a broom using recyclable products from Pick n Pay.
Steps:
- Remove the label on your empty plastic bottle.
- Remove the bottom of the bottle with a penknife.
- Measure the distance between each cut (about 1 cm).
- Cut the bottle into strips.
- Remove the neck with a penknife.
- Cut the top of another bottle.
- Fit parts without the neck, one by one over the part with the neck.
- Fit the top over the base of the broom.
- Drill two holes and insert the wire through all layers of bottles.
- Pull the wire to the other side.
- Twist the ends to fasten.
- Secure parts with a nail.
- Drink your milk so you have an empty milk carton.
- Clean your milk carton thoroughly.
- Cut it into strips and wrap it around the broom handle.
- Secure it with tape.
Your broom is ready!!
