At Pick n Pay, we believe that living well starts with eating well. Filling up on the right foods not only fuels and nourishes us, but they provide numerous benefits to our health. We should know how important it is to eat more vegetables and fruit daily; that we need to eat more beans, peas and lentils as part of our meals and that we should eat far less sugar and salt, but putting this into practice can be tricky. Actually knowing what is healthy for us can be really confusing too.
Pick n Pay now has its own healthy product range, called Livewell. The range includes more than 300 products, ranging from seed breads and muffins to cereals and spreads. Highlighting these products as Livewell makes it easier for you to make healthier choices, whether you are wanting to take better care of your diabetes, lose weight, lower your blood pressure, eat smart for a healthy heart or simply eat better for a healthier you.
Pick well, Eat well, Live well
If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a thousand times – you are what you eat. The truth behind this statement may be obvious, but with so many fad diets and healthy options jostling for space on the shelves, it can be hard to feel truly confident in your healthy food choices.
Pick one small change to your diet every week and see the impact it can have on your overall health and wellbeing.
Here are our recommendations:
- Eat more vegetables and fruit
- Choose whole grains
- Focus on including healthy fats
- Include fish, chicken, lean meat and eggs
- Enrich meals with beans and legumes
- Reduce salt and sugar intake
- Drink more fluids, especially water
Livewell product labels
The full range of Livewell products have had to meet strict criteria based on government guidelines for fat, saturated fat, added sugar and salt.
You will see this green band on hundreds of products that not only taste good but are good for you too. Every product carrying the Livewell banner provides a health benefit and this benefit is highlighted in the band as a health call-out.
Some of the more common health call-outs include:
Low fat, Reduced fat, No added sugar, Reduced sugar, No added salt, High in fibre, High in vitamins and minerals and a Source of good fats.
The Free From products is specially developed for people who have allergies to gluten, wheat and lactose. Living with a food allergy can be difficult, but with more products available such as gluten-free bread, flours, baking mixes and pasta, planning a gluten-free diet should be so much easier. There are also lactose-free milk and yoghurts available for those of you who might have lactose intolerance – a condition which results in an upset stomach after drinking milk.
The Low Carb products are for people looking to follow a diet free from carbohydrate foods. There are some delicious new low carb alternatives now available from our bakery as well as low carb quiches and a range of baking mixes that make life a little easier when cutting out carbs from the diet.
The launch of more vegan lines satisfies the growing demand for plant-based products free of any foods of animal origin. These include plant-based milk, such as almond and soya milk, flavoured tofu which is a soya cheese and even healthy date balls for those with a sweeter tooth.
Eating healthily doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Pick n Pay wants to make the healthier choice an easy one.
