As we come to the end of the 2019 academic year, we look back on a successful year and remain humbled by how much we achieved together with you, our partner schools.
OUR NEW WEBSITE IS NOW LIVE! We are excited to reveal that our new website is now live. We’ve made it easier for our partner schools to access FREE CAPS aligned educational resources. All you need to do is log on to: www.schoolclub.co.za. Teachers can choose one grade they wish to have access to and after the verification email at step 3, teachers just need to enter the coupon code ‘schoolclub’ in the section mentioned ‘coupon code’ and they will be able to complete their registration and access the FREE resources. We are passionate about educating our future leaders and we believe in supporting and participating in our communities and making a difference in their lives. The Pick n Pay Hero Awards programme will be in its seventeenth-year next year and the awards continue to be an integral part of Pick n Pay School Club to celebrate everyday acts of heroism, courage, selflessness, kindness, respectfulness, honesty and being a team player. Heroes are all around us and the Hero Awards aim to identify the acts of heroism from learners and teachers that turn the person into an extraordinary hero. Visit the website to see our 2019 heroes: https://www.schoolclub.co.za/hero-awards/ SCHOOLS CAN FOLLOW THESE EASY STEPS TO IMPLEMENT THE HERO AWARDS PROGRAMME IN THEIR SCHOOL
As our mission is to support South African educators and learners with content and experiences that are relevant, exciting and stimulating to uplift communities, almost 500 Pick n Pay Head Office employees volunteered their time and skills to build a kitchen and dining area at Velokhaya Life Cycling Academy in Khayelitsha. Velokhaya launched a daily feeding scheme for around 200 children and was established to involve township youth in an after-school cycling-based programme. The dining hall was officially opened on November 17th, 2019 by Deputy Minister of Social Development, Ms. Bogopane-Zulu and Western Cape Premier Alan Winde, alongside Pick n Pay GM of Sustainability, Andre Nel.
In April, Pick n Pay surprised Grade 1 learners in KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Western Cape with healthy lunchboxes. It is important for learners starting their school career to understand the importance of healthy eating for mental focus and energy throughout their school day. The lunchboxes were handed out to learners with help from Customer Service Managers and teachers to everyone’s delight! Pick n Pay School Club, together with Mastercard and the Cornal Hendricks Foundation have been running rugby clinics every Monday and Tuesday in the Boland region of the Western Cape. A team of 50 learners per primary school from four primary schools (200) are being taught rugby skills as well as valuable life lessons by the Foundation. The Foundation encourages the learners to value what they have and to use it to their advantage. We are grateful to be able to give back to the communities we serve, to make real changes in educator and learners lives and to provide enriched education so that every learner can reach their full potential. On that note, we aim to share as much as possible with you in our news stories on our website and on social media. Please do follow our Facebook page to see more informal updates too! @picknpayschoolclub We are grateful that we can inspire learners to become our future leaders and to give educators the tools to get them there. We wish you and your families a peaceful and restful holiday break and we look forward to welcoming you to a prosperous 2020 academic year! Yours in education, The Schoolclub team |
